Electrical
Vehicle electrification demands high-performance, durable and reliable materials for high- and low-voltage applications such as battery components, connectors, chargers, power distribution boxes and electronic module housings. At the same time, shrinking package space is driving the need for thin-wall designs and miniaturization.
SABIC supplies a wide range of thermoplastics for electrical applications in battery, plug-in hybrid and internal combustion electric vehicles (EVs). Our portfolio provides easy processing, flame retardancy, and excellent mechanical and electrical performance, including impact strength and stiffness and a high Comparative Tracking Index (CTI). In addition to proven materials, we offer expert engineering resources and other technical assistance to support design optimization and manufacturing.
Material solutions for automotive electrical applications leverages products and expertise developed under SABIC’s BLUEHERO™ electrification initiative.

Thin-wall Connectors
In response to the clear miniaturization trend in electrical components, thin-wall designs are being used for housings in both low-voltage standard automotive connectors and high voltage connectors. However, these thinner walls cannot sacrifice performance properties such as mechanical robustness and effective electrical insulation. Other requirements for these connectors include manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.

High-voltage EV Power Electronics
Electric vehicles require efficient high voltage levels compared to outdated 12-volt systems to power the motor, support the proliferation of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and meet the demands of higher-power processors in computing systems. In addition to accommodating higher voltages, materials for power distribution boxes, central electric junction boxes, and electronic control and switching units should deliver low warpage and low flammability ratings, high CTI and easy processing.
