COLLABORATION THAT CAPTURES THE IMAGINATION (AND HALF A MILLION TONNES OF CO2)
COVID-19 is not the only mega challenge the world faces; another is reducing harmful emissions and discovering how they might be chemically transformed into useful substances.
Breakthrough CO2 capture and utilization plants are one solution. SABIC has built a mega-plant that can capture up to half a million tons of CO2 annually that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere. Over 11 million trees would need to be planted to capture the equivalent amount.
More than that, the CO2 has been reclaimed for agriculture.
It is being used to help make SABIC Urea, a key agri-nutrient for more plentiful harvests, converting a potentially harmful emission into a useful nutrient.
In liquid form, reclaimed or diverted CO2 can work to create products in the soft drinks industry as well as manufacturing methanol for chemicals companies.
With collaboration and imagination, we can divert and convert millions more tons of CO2 from harm to help.
