General Information
Description
LDPE, or Low-Density Polyethylene, is a type of polyethylene plastic. It has a lower density, lower molecular weight, and more branching than HDPE, which makes it more flexible and less expensive. LDPE is commonly used in applications where flexibility and low cost are important, such as in packaging, bags, films, and coatings. It is also recyclable, which makes it an environmentally-friendly choice. LDPE is resistant to moisture and some chemicals, but not as much as HDPE.
Applications
Some typical applications are:
- Packaging: Films, bags, and coatings for food, beverages, and industrial chemicals

- Agricultural: Irrigation tubing, greenhouse films, and silage bags
- Automotive: Under-the-hood components, gaskets, and seals
- Building and construction: Roofing membranes, insulation, and pipe insulation
- Wire and cable insulation: Telecommunications and power cables
- Film extrusion: Bags, packaging films, and shrink films
