Guangzhou, China, May 20, 2013 – SABIC today announced its new polypropylene (PP) impact copolymer (ICP) grade PP77MK40T, manufactured in China for the local market. PP77MK40T is the first product of its type to be made locally, paving the way for a more efficient supply chain, quicker time-to-market and enhanced competitiveness for our customers in China.

“Consumers are increasingly demanding a wider range of products that are economical, practical, durable and environmentally friendly. SABIC understands what consumers want and is designing products bearing these demands in mind, which in turn supports China’s ultimate drive towards sustainability and reliability,” said Gary Lam, Director, Polypropylene, Polymers, Asia Pacific, SABIC.

PP77MK40T is produced using the Spherizone multi-zone circulating reactor slurry process. The technology behind PP77MK40T enables superior colour stability and high impact resistance even at low temperatures. The high inherent tensile strength of this product allows a more advantageous strength-to-weight ratio, which allows products and sub-assemblies to be produced with reduced thickness and weights without compromising strength. This, in turn, reduces the amount of material need for manufacturing and consequently cuts waste and impact on the environment on a per part basis, reaffirming SABIC’s commitment towards sustainability.

PP77MK40T is suitable for production of garden furniture, household items, battery casings, containers, toys, crates and boxes, and enriches the Polymers portfolio in SABIC.

The real-life applications and real-world impact of SABIC’s portfolio of innovative and sustainable products are showcased at the Archi-Light Concept House which is open to all visitors to Chinaplas 2013 on May 20 – 23 in Hall 10.2 B31, China Import and Export Fair Pazhou Complex, Guangzhou.
