SABIC Recognized For Research Excellence, Wins R&D Award For Innovative Specialty Solutions

For the second consecutive year, SABIC has been named a winner of the 2022 R&D 100 Award, a global science and innovation competition, for three of its Specialties solutions, demonstrating once again how the company is constantly investing in innovation to secure its competitive edge.

R&D World magazine awarded SABIC’s Specialties portfolio in the Mechanical/Materials category for its contribution in three key areas that helped meet changing needs in the global market. They include enabling the world’s first Laser Direct Structuring antenna design for 5G infrastructure; contributing to net-zero carbon goals in multiple industries; and helping Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) designers improve signal transmission accuracy and reliability.

Commenting on the award, Ernesto Occhiello, SABIC Executive Vice President, Specialties, said, “The award clearly reflects how innovation is at the core of SABIC’s economic value-creation and growth strategy. Our Specialties business creates value by pushing the boundaries of our materials’ physical properties to address our customers’ challenges. The honor comes at a time when we are further building on our research competencies to help improve industrial processes and manufacture safer, more efficient and sustainable products – and make the difference for our customers.

The three solutions that have demonstrated SABIC’s R&D capabilities and have been recognized are LNP™ THERMOCOMP™ OFC08V compound, LNP™ ELCRIN™ iQ resins, and LNP™ THERMOCOMP™ WFC06I&WFC06IXP, LNP STAT-KON™ WDF40RID solutions for ADAS radar package.

This competition, which is celebrating its 60th year, received entries from several different countries and regions. The judging panel this year included nearly 50 well-respected industry professionals from across the world.
