LNP™ Copolymers
Copolymers, which link two or more different types of monomers in the same chain, allow formulators to combine diverse properties to create new and distinctive materials. SABIC offers the automotive industry four copolymer families, each with a specific list of desirable attributes and target applications.
LNP SLX copolymers, well-suited for exterior applications (grilles, appliques, visors, hood components, ADAS covers), provide outstanding weatherability, resistance to high heat and impact, IR transparency and molded-in color capability, including high-gloss piano black. These materials can reduce costs and CO2 emissions by avoiding secondary painting and providing a paint-free alternative to PC/ABS resins. Compared to standard PC, LNP SLX materials offer better UV resistance. They also surpass both PMMA and ASA in gloss and high-temperature impact performance.
LNP EXL copolymers for potential use in fascias and frames of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) feature superior low temperature impact (down to -60°C) compared to standard and impact-modified PC grades, as well as ABS resins. They also feature robust FR, colorability, UV weatherability and resistance to chemicals.
LNP XHT copolymers for potential use in lighting bezels provide higher temperature resistance than PC, and better dimensional stability than PBT. These properties are increasingly important as LED lighting designs become more complex and tightly packed in the space available.
LNP CFR copolymers are based on an optically clear, flame retardant resin system and can be considered for use in lenses and windows of electric vehicle charging equipment. Compared to standard PC, LNP CFR materials provide high clarity and flame retardancy at thinner gauges down to 1mm.
Featured Product Families
LNP SLX Copolymer |
A PC-based copolymer that offers excellent chemical, UV and scratch resistance, impact strength and aesthetics (gloss and colorability). |
LNP EXL Copolymer |
A PC siloxane-based copolymer notable for low-temperature ductility and also offering chemical and weathering resistance and easy processing. |
LNP XHT Copolymer |
A clear, PC-based copolymer with better flow and impact resistance than competitive high-temperature PC materials. |
LNP CFR Copolymer |
A clear, PC-based copolymer offering thin-wall FR capability (down to 1mm) without the use of bromine or chlorine additives. This material helps to enable parts with very thin gauges that can reduce weight. |
