REUSABLE CUTLERY MADE FROM NATURE

Today, one of the biggest challenge the food industry is facing is to reduce the environmental impact and the use of fossil-based resources for single-use cutlery, and enable full recyclability and compliance with the stringent food packaging industry standards without affecting the quality.

Reusable Nature Line Cutlery made from UPM Formi EcoAce, is made from certified wood fibers, as well as certified renewable PP polymer from SABIC’s TRUCIRCLE™ portfolio, that are linked to wood-based feedstock from UPM Biofuels production.

This second-generation bio-based feedstock from forestry residue streams does not compete with the food production chain. The Bio napthta feedstock, certified renewable polymers and EcoAce compound are fully certified under the ISSC Plus - mass balance certification scheme.

Compared to fossil-based feedstock each kg of SABIC certified renewable PP saves up to 4kg of CO2 from the atmosphere, versus fossil based PP.

Certified renewable PP used in this cutlery is part of SABIC’s TRUCIRCLE™ portfolio, which contains solutions for recyclability, mechanically recycled products, certified circular products from wood-based feedstock, recycling of plastic waste streams, and certified renewables products from bio-based feedstock.

Nature line cutlery withstands daily-use temperatures over 100 °C and repeated cleaning in a commercial dishwasher with normal programs. Every time consumers use or re-use Nature Line cutlery, it helps reduce disposable consumption to help make a better tomorrow. This cutlery has a smooth mouth feel and is hygienic and easy to wash, as well as being microwave safe for reheating, unlike many other alternatives.

Certified renewable polymers from SABIC's TRUCIRCLE™ solutions act as a bridge to enable the value chain to evolve from a linear, to a circular economy. Our collaboration with UPM EcoAce is a good example of how this pioneering product can be implemented in various applications and can help to meet consumer demand for more sustainable products.

Nature Line cutlery saves resources, does not cause any deforestation and does not compete with food production. The product has a lower ecological footprint than any other bio-based cutlery, offering carbon footprint (CO2) reduction up to 90% and the raw material CO2 footprint remains 0% after incineration.
