HELPING CHILDREN BACK TO SCHOOL
When they are equipped to learn, students have the best chance of success. SABIC’s global Back to School program helps underprivileged children to start the new school year with everything they need.
At the heart of SABIC’s CSR program is a commitment to help the communities where we operate to be more sustainable and innovative. Education is central to this mission, especially for the young people that our future depends on.
Launched in 2015, our global Back to School initiative has been designed to support students who may not have access to all the materials and equipment they need to start the academic year successfully. We have worked with governments, NGOs, schools and communities in 11 countries to help underprivileged children get ready for the new term. The Back to School initiative has provided school supplies to students in Brazil, Kenya, the UAE and US, and supported technology education in Vietnam and Saudi Arabia. To date, it has helped tens of thousands of students access materials that help them get the education they deserve.
The program also gives SABIC employees an opportunity to support their local communities. For example, colleagues from our Campinas site in Brazil worked to ensure that 145 children between the ages of 6-12 received backpacks full of school supplies at the start of term.
Back to School shows how the power of collaboration can help remove the obstacles to education for students who have the most to gain from it.
