Abdulrahman Al-Fageeh, SABIC CEO and Chairman of Saudi B20 delegation, led top business leaders from Saudi Arabia to the B20 Summit held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on October 24 and 25, under the theme, “Inclusive Growth for a Sustainable Future.”

The delegation discussed the key recommendations to be submitted by the B20 to the G20 leadership. They touched on various issues of global significance: Trade and Investment, Employment & Education, Energy Transition & Climate, Digital Transformation, Finance & Infrastructure, Integrity & Compliance, Sustainable Food Systems & Agriculture, and Women, Diversity & Inclusion.

The delegation, representing Saudi Arabia’s business community interests, met with counterparts from the world’s 20 leading economies, addressing key global challenges that are facing the Kingdom’s business community and some of their customers worldwide.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Al-Fageeh highlighted the various challenges facing the global chemical industry and said that it was at the center of much regulatory activity related to neutralizing its carbon footprint.  Drawing an optimistic picture despite these challenges, he said, “Personally, I believe that the chemical industry has a bright future. It can decarbonize itself while continuing to add value to consumer goods. But to do this, the industry has to become a cornerstone of a circular carbon economy.”

The Saudi delegation to the B20 in Brazil effectively demonstrates the Saudi business community commitment to the B20 initiatives being comprised of four Task Force co-chairs, four deputy co-chairs and 19 Task Force members covering all eight Task Forces and Action Councils.

This was the fifth consecutive year that SABIC has led the Saudi delegation’s B20 participation, beginning with Saudi Arabia in 2020 as the host country, Italy in 2021, Indonesia in 2022, and India in 2023, in addition to this year’s summit in Brazil.

The B20, the official business dialogue forum amongst the G20 nations and the global business community, represents the interests of the business sector and passes its recommendations to the G20 Summit.
