REDUCING THE RISK IN SHARED SPACES

Do I need to wash my hands now? Since COVID-19, we’ve all become acutely aware of the risk of touching surfaces in places where many people gather or pass through.

Whether it’s the commute to the office, taking the kids to school, moving around the workplace or seeing our loved ones in healthcare facilities, we know that many others have been there before us.

What if materials used for “high touch” surfaces that are difficult (or even impossible) to clean, could help to reduce the presence of bacteria and viruses that spread diseases? This is what material developed by SABIC can do. Incorporating nano silver and zinc additives, LEXAN™ CLINIWALL™ AC6200 sheet, which is commonly used for wall cladding in public spaces, has properties that may help to reduce the presence of dangerous MRSA and E-coli bacteria.

LEXAN™ CLINIWALL™ AC620 sheet is also durable and may withstand repeated cleaning. It can be easy to form and install and may be recycled at the end of its life.

In the future, we could see materials like this in high-touch items such as aircraft and rail interiors, or ID cards – building safety into shared spaces.
