There’s no shortage of water – it covers around 70% of the world’s surface. Yet all but around 2.5% is of little use other than as a support for shipping. Technology to turn saltwater into fresh has been around for centuries – but only on the smallest of scales. High volume desalination entails one major drawback – massive energy consumption. 

Desalination and renewable energy thus go hand in hand as fundamental enablers of a better future for countless millions – not only in meeting human needs, but in helping defuse some of the world’s most potentially divisive political conflicts.
