A delegation of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) and Better Shelter visited the Home of Innovation™ on June 5 to discuss alternative concepts for refugee shelters.

The delegation led by Fahad Al-Osaimi, KSRelief’s Urgent Aid Director, saw a refugee shelter prototype and was briefed on how our advanced solutions can substitute those currently being used by KSRelief.A number of our polymer solutions can be used in advanced applications for such shelters. These highly innovative shelters can provide superior insulation and mechanical properties, keeping the inside of the shelters cool and ensuring they withstand harsh climates.

Fahad Al-Harthi, Director, Advanced Consumer Solutions, said, “SABIC is committed to offering new innovative solutions that can change the existing landscape, and in this case, for a humanitarian cause. The shelters are designed to bring comfort and safety. We are proud that SABIC’s materials are being used for such applications with remarkable social value creation.

“Innovative ideas like these are best implemented through strategic collaborations across the value chain of humanitarian aid. KSrelief is a key player when it comes to such efforts in areas of unrest around the globe, he added.

The visit was organized in line with our commitment to promoting collaboration, innovation and localization of new industries in polymer applications. It also enabled us to position ourselves as a frontrunner in humanitarian aid and enhanced our ESG profile in the social arena. The visit was arranged by colleagues from Home of Innovation™, Foam and Lightweight Segment, Polymer Applications, T&I, and Local Content.
