As the world looks to ‘go green’, the renewables potential of a nation bathed in sunlight and swept by strong winds is obvious. Strong regional demand, significant cost advantages over foreign competition of up to 8% on some components, and planned, ongoing development in key related commodities like glass, aluminum and plastics flag up the potential – and national initiatives to seize on it. 

Leveraging local demand, developing leadership in relevant manufacturing capabilities, and building local skills will be crucial, along with the planned and coordinated development of a supportive national ecosystem of private companies and academic and other research institutions.
