Shanghai, China, September 21, 2017 – SABIC, a global leader in diversified chemicals, shared its best practices in adopting and implementing the safety, sustainability and capital management practices throughout its operations at the 2017 Global Summit on Chemical Safety and Security (CHEMSS) and China Petroleum and Chemical International Conference (CPCIC), held in Shanghai recently, and called for increasing industry-wide efforts to elevate these practices so as to propel the sustainable development of China’s chemical industry.

Khaled Saleh Al-Kharboush, Vice President, Global EHSS, Corporate Manufacturing, Executive Management, SABIC, delivered a keynote speech at the CHEMSS 2017 on 19 September. He began with the importance of risk management by illustrating the example of space shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003, which reflected the repercussions on the chemical industry, and shared SABIC’s experience of driving the safe, responsible, sustainable management of chemicals through risk management. He remarked, “Promoting the safety management has always been at the core of SABIC’s values. We are committed to upholding the strictest EHSS standards within SABIC, extending to our partners and continuing raising the bar in the industry.” 

On the same day, Li Lei, Vice President and Regional Head, North Asia, SABIC, participated in two panel discussions at the CHEMSS 2017, sharing SABIC’s best practices in safety and sustainability and exchanged ideas with other panellists about how multinational companies should continue demonstrating leadership in the safe and responsible management of chemicals in China. At the 2017 CPCIC, Li Lei also delivered a keynote speech and shared SABIC’s experience of and insights to driving the integration and sustainable development of the chemical industry by seizing the capital opportunities in industrial transformation. He also attended a CEO roundtable on the sidelines of CPCIC and hosted a CEO roundtable dinner exclusively title sponsored by SABIC. “SABIC is keen to share cutting-edge know-how as well as the best practices in terms of safety, sustainability and capital management to facilitate the transformation of the chemical industry in China,” said Li Lei. “In the spirit of Chemistry that MattersTM, we will continue to drive the industry development and contribute our inclusive partnership with China for a safer, smarter & more Sustainable Chemistry Future.”

The CHEMSS and CPCIC are both organized by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. The CHEMSS 2017 is a major platform promoting chemical safety and security bringing together international organizations, governments, industry and academia dedicated to safety and security solutions in the field of chemical industry supply chain. While CPCIC is one of the most influential international Chemical industry conferences held annually in China, attracting 1,500 high-level government officials, industry players and renowned academics this year.
