FEEDING MORE OF THE WORLD WITH OFFSHORE FISHING
With a predicted world population of nearly 9 billion people in 2050, society must investigate ways to more sustainably increase all food sources.
Aquaculture or fish farming is a growing contributor to food supply as land for agriculture is becoming scarce.
But responsible and efficient food production demands new technology that can work for long periods at sea and on major lakes.
SABIC has worked with an innovative aquaculture company to help develop HDPE floating pipe structures that can replace wooden cages and foam solutions for fish farms.
With anti-wave designs that stand up to sea or river conditions and high levels of UV radiation, the pipe structures have a lifespan of up to five times longer than existing solutions. Greater material strength is catching a steady and more sustainable supply of fish for the future.
